Palm ID Please
by pg6922- 5 replies

The problem I have with identifying a palm is not knowing what they look like at a less than mature age. So, I would guess this palm some form of pseudophoenix but I cant find any photos that look like these. They have a really pronounced heel. I know its probably pretty easy, but not having a trunk is throwing me. Thanks, Patrick

Gastrococcus crispa

I know (Acrocomia) but I refuse to call it that. Mainly because of the seeds. We all know Acro's are large and can take 2yrs or more to germinate. However, Gastro seeds are much smaller, and will sprout within 2weeks(with high heat) if they are collected fresh. Here's one I grew from seed. It measured only half way up the fence 3months ago. It has since sprouted sort of a 'trunk' and is over the 6ft tall fence now.

My father in law lives in the south of France and asked me for some help on his palm. I believe it's a date palm but not sure. Anyway, the leaves are flopping down and when they do they can be pulled off with no force. I'm wondering if it's weevils? Any help would be appreciated.

Snapped a photo of this palm in Ecuador and I have no idea what it might be and have never seen anything quite like it. Interesting growth habit. There were several others in the river town of Coca. I'm sure someone can ID it. Tim

Howdyall: Bought the palm below, labeled as R. hill, which it isn't. SO what is it? It's gorgeous whatever it is, and I strongly suspect it's not even a Ravenea. Check it out: And, tell me what it is, and what it likes, hates, etc. Take it to the movie, or read the book to it . . .

Finally had some time to visit the Amy Greenwell Garden in South Kona. An approximately 10 acre garden geared more towards native Hawaiian and indigenous/canoe plants. Didn't get a chance to take many pictures as we were tight on time. Anyway, here a few pictures of some loulu that I did take. P. glabrata

We sold our FL house in the spring of 2018, and we’ve been stuck in a rental since before then. I couldn’t plant anything, and so I gave up on dreaming of my perfect tropical garden. Today we closed on a new house in Cairns’ northern beaches, so we went out and bought a bunch of plants! The yard is small, but I’m hoping to get some enjoyment out of it.

Potted palms tipped over...stupid wind!
by jfrye01@live.com- 3 replies

So anyway, I moved my two 15 gallon palms outside and placed them in the yard where they could have some sun yesterday. As the temps weren't supposed to fall below 40F last night, I left them out all night...anyways, this morning, I looked outside at my palms...and they weren't there!! So, of course, some panic ensued...turns out, the damn wind had come up in the middle of the night, tipped over both the Trachy and the Pindo, and they had rolled 50 feet or so...However, they have no broken fronds or other visible damage, I'm just afraid they suffered some damage that I can't see, such as broken roots...if that's the case, anything I can do?

Sickly Windmill Palms - Seeking Advice/Opinions

Hello! My Trachycarpus has been doing exceptionally well - until this weekend. Just mid week, I was inspecting the spear and foliage, everything was excellent! Today, I noticed the spearhead appears to be drooping, and one of the fronds opening up looked terrible. Upon inspecting it, the outer , freshly opened frond completely fell off. I looked quite closely at the spear and noticed there are bits of white around it. After doing some reading, it appears that it has a fungus? Based on suggestions, I treated it with a little bit of peroxide. And some of the experts tell me what they think it is? We had an insanely wet February, here, in the Virginia Beach region of…

The Palm Planting Continous
by osideterry- 3 replies

Instead of creating a new thread each weekend, i thought I'd create one and just update each week. Behind my pool, the ground drops off to a drainage channel, next to my fence. I reinforced the ground with legacy blocks to stop erosion, and to create better planting beds. Yesterday I braved the heat and filled 2 slots I have their. This King Alexander replaces the one I lost in last year's freeze. Those are coffee grounds at the base... it has a minor scale problem I'm treating with neem oil, and decided throw in coffee also.
