Well, it's about time I posted some pictures here. I do have a tendency to talk about this and that and post no pictures which can make it a tad boring. Yesterday I went out and took some snaps. Now I'm not a good photographer and the garden is quite thick in places so it's very hard to get some plants in shot and impossible to get larger plants completely in one frame so I apologise. But if you want to have a look, feel free to wander with me through my yard and have a look at a few things before winter kicks in and makes me miserable and I don't feel like posting pics anymore. There's a few pics, so I'll post a few, go away and do what I must, then come back and pos…

Hey All, I got back from a quite a long trip early last week and I had the opportunity to visit the land down under. In a nut shell: I love Cairns ( pronounced Cannes ). Sydney is great, but there is nothing like the tropical north of Australia; it is gorgeous. Quite a treat for a tropical loving bloke like me ! In Cairns the red sealing wax were growing like weeds. It was just so amazing to walk into a regular little shopping center and see a 30 ft. Vershefeltia. Just awesome. Here are some of the pics I took. For those who recommended the Flecker Botanical Gardens also known as the Cairns Botanical Garden, spot on. Although not very big, it was really wel…

I was originally a cycad enthusiast -- and I've only owned this place for a little over six months -- so I'm just getting started, but I thought that it would be interesting to post 'before' and 'after' pictures. I'm going to move my cycads over in the spring. The original garden was more of an english country style but I'm trying to work the palms in. I'm basically leaving the front of the house an english country garden, but I'm making the steep hillside next to the house and behind it more of a tropical garden with palms, cycads, and a few tropical fruits. The hillside is VERY steep but it gets watered by the neighbor when he waters his avocado grove so I think t…

I don't post really because I felt I don't know enough about palms. So here goes ... First pictures are of my ravenea rivularis'. You can see why I asked about planting them in the ground. They have outgrown their pots really. In the third picture you can see the fronds of my Cycas thouarsii behind the ravenea which was ill but seems to have recovered somewhat. The fourth picture is a Howea fosteriana that I 'rescued' from a nursery for very little money ($10AUD which is about $9.00US I think). And the last picture is of my little Phoenix canariensis Isn't she gorgeous!

Here are some pictures from my visit at Randy's Nursery in Lawrencville, GA...I love this place and they gave me permission to take pictures and share with others. Please forgive the camera phone pictures...(errr) I would have taken more pictures inside of the butterfly house and the tropical greenhouse and picturs of all of the large washys, palmettos and huge trachys but, the battery ran out on my camera phone.

So I decided to step out of my house on this hot day and snap some pics of tropicals. This is on the river and less than a mile from the ocean on the barrier island. I'm new to 'palming' so I'm still unfamiliar with a lot of palms, so please asset me with some identifications. So here's two nice royals by my place Here's two healthy coconut palms about 15ft Bottle palm? Not sure Here's some Delonix regia right by a lamborghini Here's two more big cocos nucifera Will be dumping more in a sec

Looks like I'm going to get my first morning below 10C (50F) this weekend , so my palms are only going to look worse between now and next summer. Seemed like a good time to post some photos... Here's a view of the left side of the front yard. The lighting is crappy, but that's what I had to work with.

Pictures of my new baby coconut <3

I was at the Home Depot in Destin Florida today and I found a bunch of palms, it almost seemed like a nursery dedicated to palms. Good on them for that! I found 5 or 6 little coconut palms that were $10 each. I begged my grandmother to get me one and she did; I'm surprised it fits in her little car! (Volkswagen Beetle btw) Here's a picture > I hope I can keep it alive inside, until it's warm enough constantly (over 70 to be safe) to keep outside.

I have not seen any naturalized palms in Florida before with my own eyes. I have seen some pictures of them scattered around the forum though, but I wanted to make a thread specifically about them. Can people post some pictures of naturalized (non-native) palms in the wild in Florida?

Drove past my old house today and took some pictures, glad to see they kept all the palms. Nothing has been trimmed and not kept neat but they sure are growing! I did not go in the yard but most of the garden looked pretty good, just un-trimmed.

Pictures of the new ambitious works at the Palmetum. 2010-2011 1 2

Dear friends, I have been away from the forum for a while. One of the main reasons is that I am overloaded with the new works started a few months ago at the Palmetum in Santa Cruz. Some very ambitious works have been contracted during last spring, for an amount of 5 million Euros. The goal is to open the park to the public next Spring. This botanical garden was started in 1996 but it has never been inaugurated. The works mostly consist of civil engineering and there is very little botany and gardening. However I am working along with the construction management team. I find surprising to see how this project is now running at such a pace, after a decade at very …
